Ingredients

  • 4 cups whole milk (sub almond or oat milk for a lighter, dairy-free version)
  • 8 oz white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate (I swear by Ghirardelli or Green & Black’s)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional for extra silkiness; use coconut cream for vegan)
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract (look for “Madagascar vanilla” with those pretty specks)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar (skip or reduce if your chocolate is very sweet)
  • Pinch fine sea salt (balances sweetness beautifully)
  • Whipped cream for topping (homemade or store-bought)
  • Festive sprinkles or white chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  • Pour whole milk (and cream, if using) into a medium saucepan. Warm over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until small bubbles form at the edges—don’t let it boil or you’ll scald the milk.
  • Lower heat to medium-low. Add chopped white chocolate in batches, whisking constantly. You want a smooth, glossy pool with no streaks.
  • Stir in vanilla extract, sugar (if you need it), and a pinch of salt. Taste—if it’s too sweet, that salt pinch really helps.
  • Divide your White Hot Chocolate among mugs. Tip: warm the mugs in the microwave for 20 seconds first so the drink stays hot longer.
  • Pile on whipped cream, a dusting of white chocolate shavings, or rainbow sprinkles for that holiday vibe.

Notes

Tips: Chop your chocolate finely so it melts quickly and evenly. If you use non-dairy milk, give it a good shake first—separation happens!
