Instructions
Pour the sugar cube into an Old Fashioned glass. Add the bitters and a splash of water to help the sugar dissolve. Gently muddle until the sugar is mostly broken down.
Pour in 2 ounces of your favorite bourbon. Drop in a single large ice cube or two smaller ones.
Use a bar spoon and stir for about 20 seconds, until the glass feels cold.
Express the oils of an orange twist by holding it over the glass and giving it a firm pinch. Run the peel around the rim, then drop it in. Finish with a Luxardo cherry on a pick.
Hold the glass up to your nose first—breathe in the bitters-citrus bouquet, then take a small sip.
Notes
Sugar tip: Demerara sugar adds molasses notes that pair beautifully with bourbon's oak character.
