Ingredients

  • 2 ounces vodka I love Tito’s Handmade Vodka for its smoothness
  • 4 ounces ginger beer Fever-Tree or Q Ginger Beer recommended for real ginger bite
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice freshly squeezed
  • Ice cubes use large, clear cubes if you have them for slower melt
  • Lime wedge or wheel for garnish
  • Fresh mint sprig or candied ginger optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Pop your copper mug (or highball glass) into the freezer for 5–10 minutes—this little trick keeps your Moscow Mule ice-cold without diluting it too fast.
  • While the mug chills, cut a fresh lime in half and juice it until you’ve got about ½ ounce. Feel free to strain out pulp if you prefer a clean sip.
  • Remove the mug, fill it halfway with ice, then pour in the vodka and lime juice. Give it a gentle swirl so they marry nicely.
  • Pour in 4 ounces of ginger beer—pour slowly against the ice to maintain fizz. You want that ginger spice to shine, not get lost in a flat pool.
  • A quick, 3-second stir is all it takes—over-stirring flattens the ginger beer’s sparkle.
  • Pop in a lime wedge and a fresh mint sprig (or a piece of candied ginger for sweetness). Serve immediately, preferably with a paper straw for style.

Notes

Experiment with ginger beer brands—some are spicier, others sweeter. If you don’t have copper mugs, use a highball glass wrapped in a moist towel and popped in the freezer. Juice limes in batches and freeze leftover juice in ice cube trays for future cocktails. For a lighter version, swap half the vodka for soda water—still tasty but with fewer calories.
