Ingredients
  

  • 2 sticks unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour spooned & leveled
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt omit if using salted butter
  • Optional garnishes coarse sugar, sprinkles, or melted chocolate

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Beat softened butter and powdered sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Mix in vanilla extract on low speed until fully combined and fragrant.
  • Whisk flour and salt together, then add gradually to butter mixture until just combined.
  • Shape dough into two logs, wrap in plastic, and chill for 15 minutes to firm up.
  • Slice each dough log into ½-inch rounds, roll in garnishes if desired, and place on prepared sheets.
  • Bake cookies for 10–12 minutes, rotating pans halfway, until edges are lightly golden.
  • Let cookies cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra flavor, add 1 tablespoon citrus zest or a pinch of spice. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
