She wore her grandmother’s 1956 wedding dress.

Although my grandpa couldn’t attend because he passed away in 2013, she expressed her gratitude that I chose to wear her wedding dress, Moffet added.

Despite having been friends for 13 years before being married in 2019, Christina and Alexander Moffet.

We attended the same school and were involved in the same musical and dramatic communities, Christina Moffet told. “His father taught me in high school, and our sisters played baseball in the same league for children with special needs.

“We went to an alumni drama get-together at IHOP after a show and reconnected when we were both in college,” Moffet recalled.

“We become close friends and spoke frequently. That Christmas in 2013, he asked me out.

Six years later, in October, the pair became legally married.

Moffet began her quest for a dress by putting on the outfits her family members wore to their own weddings.

She admitted, “I had thought very little about organizing my wedding until I was already engaged.

“I was dreading participating in the entire “Say Yes to the Dress” process because I knew very little about dresses. I made the decision to start with family dresses and move on from there since I knew my grandma (affectionately known as “Mite”), my mom, and my future mother-in-law would want me to try on their dresses.

The group, including Moffet’s sister-in-law and maid of honor, had a tea party where she modeled the ladies’ outfits.

In the end, Moffet fell in love with the 1956 outfit her grandma wore.

The outfits on both of the mothers were stunning, but not for me, Moffet stated.

Since I was aware of how stunning Mite looked in it at the time, I was hoping the dress would work.

I was wearing the hoop skirt, so I instantly started twirling and beaming,” Moffet said of the dress, adding that it “felt perfectly right” the moment she put it on. My mother claimed she instantly recognized my grandma’s attire as perfect.

Even though the dress was manufactured more than 60 years ago, Moffet didn’t require much alteration to wear it.

As I chose not to wear a corset as Mite did, it only needed to be let out a little, Moffet explained.

“We had a family friend who was an excellent seamstress. It was then steam cleaned and ready for use.

Moffet also decided against donning the included hoop skirt. “I couldn’t fit through doors easily, but boy was it fun to wear for a little while,” she remarked, switching to a tulle underskirt to give it volume.

According to Moffet, her grandma was “so thrilled” that she wore the dress.

Although my grandpa couldn’t attend because he passed away in 2013, she expressed her gratitude that I chose to wear her wedding dress, Moffet added.

Since then, I’ve assured her numerous times that I alone deserve the distinction.

“I didn’t realize how strong my genetics were until I saw how much I resemble Mite in her dress,” Moffet continued.

Moffet used additional family antiques in her wedding celebration.

Moffet added, “I also wore earrings that Mite gave my mom years ago.”

Additionally, the wedding event had a nostalgic feel. We discussed vintage fashion and books, she said.

Even Alexander Moffet enjoyed his wife’s outfit.

He and I both value family relics, and Mite’s garment’ functionality impressed him greatly, according to Christina Moffet. “Plus, the cost was reasonable!”

When she posted a picture of the dress on Reddit, it received over 70,000 upvotes.

“My husband, my friends, and I didn’t put our phones down all day trying to keep up with everything,” Moffet claimed. We received messages about it from friends we hadn’t spoken to in a long time.

Christina Moffet offered this advice to brides considering donning a family member’s gown: “Don’t knock it until you try them on.”

My family members enjoyed watching me put on the dresses and reminiscing about their own weddings, she said, even if I hadn’t worn any of them.

She stated of choosing to wear the outfit, “I am so, so delighted that I made that decision.

It made the day even more remarkable for me to be able to recognize Mite’s 57 years of marriage because she is one of my favorite people in the world.

Similar to Christina’s grandparents, who honeymooned in Michigan in 1956, the Moffets did the same.
